Activewear Production Background

BOMME STUDIO was founded in 2015 by Bo Metz, who has 26 years in performance apparel. We have developed athletic shorts, sports bras, yoga pants, and compression gear across every construction in the category.

Bo co-sponsored California SB62, the Garment Worker Protection Act, which ended piece-rate pay in California garment manufacturing and established brand liability for wage violations in the supply chain. Hourly wage compliance costs more than piece rate. A domestic quote and a piece-rate quote are not the same thing.

Performance Fabric Sourcing

On full-package programs we source the performance knit range: brushed nylon and elastane for soft-hand leggings and bras, high-compression nylon and elastane for running and interval training, technical rib and circular knit for bras and tanks, recycled polyester, merino wool, and powermesh for lining and internal support.

Certified, recycled, and non-toxic materials can be specified at sourcing. Fabric sets hand feel, compression, opacity, recovery, print behavior, and roughly half the landed cost.

Full package production

Full-package production starts at 600 units per style. We source the fabric and trims, develop the garment, and deliver finished production. You provide the design and the specs. We carry the material risk and the supply chain.

Sample Development fees are waived on production orders of 600 or more units per style.

Custom activewear made in Los Angeles or Vietnam

Choose Los Angeles for cut and sew at 150 units per style. You supply the fabric and trims. Cutting and quality control run in our LA operation, with sewing in Los Angeles or our audited Tijuana facility, disclosed in writing per program. Shortest lead times, and direct access to sample makers and fit sessions.

Choose offshore full package at 600 units per style, produced in Vietnam. We source the fabric and carry the material risk, under the same oversight: material approvals, inline inspections, and final AQL checks.

Domestic production is cut and sew only. There is no US full-package program. Garments made in the USA run through CMT at 150 units per style with fabric you supply.

How it works

1. Designing a prototype

Most brands come to us without a production-ready tech pack. That is fine. Send one if you have it so we can move faster into production.

You can also send a garment you want the fit built from. We can pattern off a physical reference on both CMT and full package for the first sample.

2. Sampling

On CMT at 150 units per style, sample development is paid and comes first. We help you pick fabric before the sample is made, so it comes back in the material you will actually produce in.

On full package at 600 units per style, the sample is included. Your quote comes off the approved sample, not a spec sheet, so the price is for the garment you signed off on.

3. Pattern Development

Patterns are made and corrected in Los Angeles. Sampling runs one to three rounds. Most fits land in round two if you review the first sample properly.

Fit sessions run here with a professional fit model, or we send you the pre-production samples and you send back fit notes or an approval. Either way, nothing goes to bulk until you sign off.

4. Grading

Full size set graded from the approved sample. You can supply your own grade rules, or we set them. Activewear does not grade like a woven. Stretch changes what a size increment does to the fit, so a rule built on a shirt will not hold on a compression legging.

5. Bulk production

Fabric in, relaxed, cut, sewn, finished. Performance knits rest off the roll before cutting, or the garment twists and shrinks after the first wash. Panels stay within one dye lot per garment, so a bra cup and band do not read as two colors. Material approvals, inline inspections, final AQL checks.

6. Finishing and delivery

Labeling, tagging, folding, polybagging, and cartoning to your spec. We coordinate logistics, customs documentation, and packaging for international delivery.

We produce for some of the hottest men's DTC activewear brands, including full programs in merino wool and other technical sustainable fabrics for brands moving away from synthetics. That covers the full range of a men's line, from compression pieces through heavyweight joggers and hoodies.

Yoga Activewear

Soft-hand leggings, supportive bras, breathable tanks, wrap tops, and lounge layers.

Most of the sustainable leggings we cut in a year are yoga styles, because this is the category where brands ask for it most. The hard part is finding eco-certified fabric that still feels soft on skin and holds through a forward fold, and after years of sampling these fabrics we know which ones do.

WOMen’s Activewear

High-support sports bras, sculpting leggings, biker shorts, yoga sets, tanks, and athleisure tops.

We have taken more than 50 women's activewear brands through sample development and into full package production. Bras, leggings, and sets are the core of what comes through this studio, and most of the fits we cut now are versions of problems we have already solved.

Inclusive Activewear

Standard range is XS through XL, five sizes per colorway, included in your minimum. Extended sizing from XXS through 5X is quoted separately, because every added size needs its own marker and grade.

We grade extended ranges in blocks and fit-check at the top and bottom of the run, because a 5X is not an XL scaled up and a size curve built on straight math fits badly at both ends.
